Currently Australia does not have comprehensive immunity from seizure legislation in place to protect objects from seizure whilst on loan to collecting institutions. The Commonwealth has posted a discussion paper on-line at http://www.arts.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0011/94835/ifs-paper-2011.pdf with the intention of encouraging submissions to inform future policy decisions on this issue.

I would encourage all of our members to examine the discussion paper and consider making a response to the Commonwealth on this important issue. The ICOM Australia Executive will also be finalising a response to the Commonwealth in the next couple of months on behalf of the membership.
