ICCROM VACANCY ADVICE
Australia has been a Member State of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) since 1975. Established through the United Nations Economic, Social and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), ICCROM is an intergovernmental organization dedicated to the conservation of cultural heritage including movable and immovable heritage. The Office for the Arts (OFTA), Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, fulfils the role of the Australian Government’s cultural contact for ICCROM, in consultation with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
OFTA has been advised that the post of Director-General of ICCROM will fall vacant in January 2012 as a result of the expiration of the maximum term permitted by ICCROM’s Statutes. Mr Grellan D. Rourke, Chairperson, ICCROM Council, has requested that we disseminate the vacancy announcement to relevant contacts.
ICCROM aims at improving the quality of conservation practice as well as raising awareness about the importance of preserving cultural heritage and contributes to preserving cultural heritage in the world today and for the future through five main areas of activity: training, information, research, cooperation and advocacy. To support this objective, ICCROM delivers international and regional conservation training programs, provides access to information resources through its specialist conservation library archive and website, supports preservation research through its laboratory and scholarships, and undertakes conservation advocacy through advisory roles with other international organisations such as the World Heritage Committee. Its members are individual states which have declared their adhesion to it and it exists to serve the international community as represented by its 129 current Member States.
Best regards
Scott Mitchell
