New website

ICOM Australia has launched its new website. The refreshed site provides a modern, clean look and content is easier to find. Your feedback on the site is most welcome.

2010 membership renewal

Your ICOM membership renewal for 2010 is now due.

How to renew

Your membership will expire on 31 Dec 2009. For renewal details please log into the members area at renewals and follow the instructions. There you will find both a direct payment, secure on-line renewal facility, as well as manual forms for those who do not wish to use the on-line facility.

Benefits

Current (2009) members are encouraged to renew as soon as possible to ensure receipt of ongoing ICOM membership benefits. These include a 2010 sticker for your ICOM card which will give you free and priority access to many overseas museums and some other benefits both in Australia and internationally.

New rates

The subscription rates for Regular Individual members and Post-Graduate Student members have risen slightly for 2010, the first increase in several years.  The rates for Institutional members have also risen, in some cases substantially. The increases reflect the subscriptions ICOM Australia is required to transmit to ICOM headquarters in Paris.

These increases were determined by the Paris General Assembly in June 2009. ICOM Australia adds a small additional fee to cover its operating expenses.

Discount for Museums Australia members

A new reciprocal benefit arrangement is in place with Museums Australia. New and renewing Regular Individual and Retired members who are current members of Museums Australia are entitled to a 5% discount on their ICOM subscriptions.

Lapsed members

Former (lapsed members) may renew their memberships without penalty.  If you have forgotten your membership number or lost your card, please contact the Membership Secretary for assistance.

General Conference 2010, Shanghai

Current membership of ICOM will be essential for participation in the 2010 ICOM General Conference in Shanghai, China 7-12 November 2010, for participation in the meetings of ICOM’s specialist International Committees, as well as in ICOM Australia’s activities and programs.  Our upgraded website provides information on a range of ICOM Australia’s programs and member benefits.

Joint Secretariat ICOM Australia-Museums Australia

Since 1 July 2008 a joint secretariat for ICOM Australia-Museums Australia has been run from Old Parliament House in Canberra. This has been possible thanks to grants from the National Museum of Australia to fund part-time staffing. This has allowed the development and support of joint secretariat services for ICOM Australia and Museums Australia whilst maintaining separate identities and unique responsibilities of both organisations.

Secretariat holiday closure

The Secretariat will be closed from 18 Dec 2009 to 5 Jan 2010. Subscription payments made during that time will not be processed until the office re-opens.

2010 AGM

A tentative date of May 2010 for the ICOM Australia AGM has been proposed by the Executive Board. The meeting is likely to be held in Canberra in association with the Museums Australia AGM and a seminar event. Both AGMs are usually aligned with the Museums Australia National Conference. However, in 2010 the conference will be late in the calendar year at a time too late to comply with the ICOM Australia Rules of Procedure.
